High School Essay Contest

Dear all:
On behalf of the Chairperson of the judging committee for NASEA/ANMA 2007 essay competition, I am pleased to announce that the deadline for submission of essays for competition is extended to July 30th, 2007. The reason for this extension is to allow more time for submissions as only a few essays have been received as of today (7/25/2007). Please communicate this announcement to all parties concerned and particularly to our young essay writers. The essays should be submitted to spradhan@gmail.com

Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) announces student essay contest open to all high school students of North America and Canada. It is believed that culture develops around the natural environment which is also true in Nepal. The goal of this essay contest is to increase awareness about Nepal, Nepalese culture and Natural environment. Hence, contestants are encouraged to do their own research on Nepal/ Culture and Natural environment and write an essay.

Topic
Must be related to Nepal/Nepalese Culture and Nepalese Natural Environment.

Eligibility:
a. The content is open to all North American Region high school student enrolled in 2006-2007 and to all home-school student in grade equivalent to grades 9-12.
b. Only one essay will be accepted for competition from an individual contestant.
c. All essays must reflect the contestant’s own research, writing and originality in writing.
d. Essay must be submitted online before deadline. (needs to provide web address).
e. Limit one submission per student

Essay specification:
a. Written in English language.
b. Student’s name, email address and day-time phone number must appear at the top of the essay.
c. Document limits to 1000-1200 words. All word, except title and bibliography will be counted towards the word limits.
d. Typed using MS-Word, double-spaced, page numbered.
e. Submit in portable document file (PDF) format. Essays must be submitted electronically to NASeA through Chairperson of the contest judging committee.

Time table:
a. Essay submission deadline - July 15, 2007.
b. Winners will be notified by – August 23, 2007
c. Recognition of Winners – September 000, 2007 (during cultural program of NASeA/ANMA annual convention)

Judging criteria:
a. Scope of research (20%)
b. Organization of content (20 %)
c. Originality (20)
d. Logic development (10 %)
e. Spelling and grammar (10%).
f. Clarity and sincerity of thoughts (10%)
g. Completeness (10%)

Awards & Recognition:
One first-place winner will be awarded a prize of $300 along with an award certificate. The second- and the third-placed winners will receive $100 and $50 respectively, along with their award certificate. The top three essays will also be published in NASeA’s upcoming Yeti View Point magazine. The winners will be honored by NASeA President, Dr. Narayan Rajbhandari during NASeA/ANMA joint convention in Labor Day Weekend, 2007.
